My first give-away!!!!

My most faithful of readers will remember that, in late 2007 I posted a list of goals I had for this blog. One of them was to host my first give-away! Well, that time is here. If it goes well, I think I will continue it!

Rocks in my Dryer is hosting a Bloggy Give away carnival and it seemed like the perfect time to initiate myself into this whole thing. Gift giving is my love language, so why not bloggy giving???

The advice I've read, to those who are new to give-aways, is to give something that fits with your personality. I've thought long & hard on this and I finally found something!

The perfect afternoon! (at least one of my favorite idea's for a perfect afternoon!) The only thing I can't provide is the child care or the means to get there...

This Perfect Afternoon Kit comes with:

- A $10 Starbucks gift card.
- A book of stamps
- A pluthera of note cards ranging from tiny to large.
- Several envelope labels
- 2 sheets of envelope seals
- a small journal for those "coffee shop observations", inspiring thoughts and notes to self!

So, what do you have to do to make this splendid opportunity yours???
COMMENT!
That's right! Comment... and Genny will be the judge. Saturday morning (February Second) we will sit down together, with warm blueberry muffins and milk and read them all... The comments will be open until then, so think of my 8 year old and what might attract her in your words!

Have fun!

Me first, me first! I think your prize sounds lovely, but what I'd really like is to come over for warm muffins and cold milk and hear you and Genny laugh at all the comments you will get. (Speaking of laughing, did you show Genny the bubblegum joke at Zenmomma's?)

Too Cute! Count me in!

oh, I could TOTALLY use that!!

Pick me!!

I was thinking about what I would write in the comment section and decided it needed to involve the child I struggle with at times, my 9 year old daughter. I think this giveaway could prove to be beneficial to our relationship because I would use it to write love notes to my sweet girl. I wonder if at times, I am not showing her the way I love her and how much I love her and that might be part of our struggles. So Genny...this is what I would do with this giveaway...

sarah chia said...

Wait! What??? You're judging the comments?

Now I'm all nervous. What if mine's good enough? What am I gonna say?

uh...pick me...please... :)

Tammy said...

Genny,

I'm a fairly new reader/commenter to your mom's blog. But, she inspires me! That is why I come here to read her posts - some of them are about you, some of them are about your family. But all of them are warm and loving! Just like I imagine your mom is!

Doing giveaways is a fun thing. If you choose my comment, I promise to do a giveaway on my blog too! But, the bad news is, I won't have you to help me choose the winner!! Maybe my kitties will help! :)

Hugs,
Tammy

This is such a neat idea and I would love to do a giveaway myself.. but when you sit down to think about something that describes you I can't think of anything.

I love those colors and all of your items sound like something I will definitely use.

I wish I was as creative as you are, everything seems to come so natural to you and I could only wish for just a little smudge of that rubbed into me.

Beckie said...

Ah crud, what can I say that will draw attention to my comment. (waving hand in the air like crazy).

Genny, did you help make the cards? If I don't win can you just make me some notecards? I was just thinking last night how I need a stack of homemade notecards.

Have a good week, girls.

Fraulein said...

I love the giveaway idea, and the idea of Genny judging the comments! And it would be awesome to have an excuse to spend some time sitting down and writing hand-written notes to people!

That is a great giveaway. If I win I will leave the baby with the husband and sneak away for an afternoon of coffee and reflecting by myself. Heavenly.

Angie said...

well Genny, the judge, I wish we did live close enough that your mom could give me a much needed "coffee house" experience and you could play with Adalai and Caleb, but alas you don't :(

Sooooo, happy judging all comments and may the best commenter win ;)

pssh: I would take one of your blueberry muffins with milk, though, please.....**ahem*** hint hint ;)

I think this is a super neat idea!
It encourages me to make notecards actually, I have all this scrapbooking stuff and apart from some Christmas cards I now have lying around, cuz I never sent them out, I hardly use my creative outlets.
Perhaps instead, I'll make some of my own and send them to you guys... would that mean I'd actually have to write a note on one? Maybe a poem about Misty, which has to be easier to rhyme with than orange ;)
(P.S. american gift cards apparently are useless in Canada, so I'll just send you stuff :)

What a nice gift package! Sign me up!

Well, Genny, first of all we have the same name, just different spellings. Secondly, I have an 8 year old son that could be described as tall, dark, and handsome. . .

(I'm just sayin'. If you want the goods you got to pull out the big guns!)

Thank you for such a generous giveaway! And I think it is very sweet to decide the winner with your daughter rather than a 'machine.'

my fourth try... this would be a great day!

Christine said...

Oh, Genny, I so wished you and your mom lived close by... I would love hanging out with your mom and my daughter would absolutely adore you. The four of us could enjoy the perfect afternoon, together... You girls sipping hot chocolate and your mom and me chatting away! (We would, of course, have to constantly shoo my 7-year-old twin boys away, as I'm sure they would be hypnotized by you!)

Maybe, if I do win this giveaway, you and Julia can become pen-pals! She would love a new friend. :)

Chocolate. Jewelery. Hanna Montana. Other than that, I have absolutely no idea what kids like. So, I lose.

BTW, I added t-shirt sewing instructions to comments over at my place. I'm too lazy and forgetful to manage to email them. It's the old age thing. ;-)

Stop by my place to win a bath set & candles or one of two copies of a book I'm giving away.

I love writing letters. I love getting mail. I'm sure you love to get mail, too. I would love to have this great gift set, and I'd use the first card to send Ms. Genny the perfect thank-you letter. I'm sure my daughter (3 years) would like to help by "drawing" a beautiful photo. Thanks for considering me!

How how fun and what a great memory to make with Genny!!! I'm a fan of making memories....like the time I was about 8 years old and sold lemonade out front. I nearly passed out from excitement when someone would gave me 50 cents instead of the 25 I was charging! Or like the time I had a sleepover and nearly fainted from loss of oxygen because all us silly little girls gabbed and gabbed so much we sucked all the air out of the room! Or like the time my Mom dressed me allllllll up for the awards night at school. I felt like a princess, not because I was wearing a new dress and blush on my cheeks, but because my Mom treated me like one.

So, Genny, you darling little precious thing, make memories and hold them close to your heart because you WILL remember them and then share them with your children one day. Then, they will make memories ... it's a fabulous little circle! So, what wonderful memory could you make this week? (besides this oh-so-fun giveaway, of course...)

What a great giveaway! Just put a smile on my face! :-)

Blessings,
~melody~

This is a great idea... even if I'm currently lacking the creativity to sweet talk Genny into choosing me... I at least get to read all of these awesome comments along with your post! The gifts you chose are perfect... if only you could throw in a basketball game on TV or a political debate or something for my hubby to watch... allowing me to sneak out of the house with out the, "Why do you want to hang out at a Coffee Shop?"

There is nothing better than a journal, a bunch of notecards & some coffee! These are all at the top of my favorites list! I would be thrilled to win, so please count me in! Thanks for the chance! I wish I had some creative words to woo Genny, but I don't! All I can say is - - - PICK ME, PICK ME, PRETTY PLEASE! Have a great week!

I read my daughter this Caribbean Story tonight before bed: Rata Pata Scata Fata - about a young boy who spends more time daydreaming than doing his chores and believes that whispering these magical words three times make his wishes come true - and he is all the day wishing that his chores will get done themselves so he can continue to daydream, and that's exactly what happens despite his mom's no nonsense response. At the end the boy teaches her how to say the words and make a wish come true. So I'm practicing a little enactment of the story here - daydreaming about these great items, whispering the words, and making a wish that I win!

oh, to be able to sit in a starbucks quietly and observe people. How wonderful that sounds to be sans a two year old for a few hours while drinking a hot coffee and pittering around. The starbucks is right next to the Barnes and Noble so the possiblity of wandering through bookshelves without chasing a 2 year old is even better

Hi Genny and Genny's Mom,
Thank you for being a part of the generous bloggy carnival. I read the story about the graduation and it made my eyes leak.
I would have been your pal and we would have had such a fun, crazy day in our high heels and tacky green dresses! I would have made it all about pretend time and that we were waiting for out Dream Dates to fly in and whisk us off to an exotic dinner....by helicopter. And we would land on top of a fancy building and have waiters in penguin suits treat us like Princesses....
Sorry. Got carried away with my fantasy. But we SO would have done that. Pinky swear!! :0)
What a great giveaway! Thanks for the chance and please be sure to come enter mine.

Hello! My name is Sully and I am a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. (You can see my picture at momma's blog.) I am sitting here at my rufftop computer, entering these giveaways so that I might be able to get momma a birthday present. I am not allowed to go shopping by myself but if I can win something and have it mailed to her, it will be a great surprise!! Don't you think she'd like that? She spends a lot of time writing letters and cards to her friends and family! So I know she would love your prize! Thanks for the chance to win it for her! Big corgi kisses to you!

Well, I'm a tired mommy of a 15 month old and would have a blast going to getting coffee at the coffee shop, using all the cute things from this list, and having a good time. Mommies sometimes get tired! (Even though their kids are so cute and we love them dearly!)

Lol- does a bribe work? Genny, if you pick us (and your mother gives us permission) we'll send you a batch of heart sugar cookies baked by my little princess Clare.

Mom, if you don't like the idea of the bribe, you don't even have to share this comment. It's meant to be in good humor, not a serious bribe of your daughter with cookies.

Hmmm... since I'm not feeling very creative in the writing department at the moment, I feel at a great disadvantage.

Thanks for the generous giveaway!

I read a couple other posts before finding this one & wow - Genny, your mom is SOME lady. It takes a lot on both parts to reconcile & marriage. It sounds like you have two parents who love you VERY much. Make sure you take it easy on them during all of this transition & keep reminding them that they are doing a great job & that everything will be okay. And Genny, if you pick my name - you can even keep one of the cards to write your parents a little love note.

My 4 year old (soon to be five) love sending and receiving letters and cards. She is just starting so she draws pictures, dictates a note from me and signs her name. She would love to have a Mommy morning without her little sister where we could go to starbucks, she would have a steamer, I would have something with chocolate in it and we would write letters to her cousins, grandparets, Aunts and her best friend.

Krista said...

Mmm, blueberries are my favorite! Will you send me some muffins with the cards if I win? :)
I love sending handmade cards to friends and family just because. This would be awesome, thanks so much!

I asked my 5 year old for advice. What would an 8 year old want to hear, to know that I really, really need this pampering perfect afternoon?

A look of quiet contemplation came over his face, and a few silent moments passed. Finally, his face lit up, a sure sign he'd found the perfect answer.

"Pika, pika! Pika-CHU!" said he, and he scampered away.

I could use these to write happy notes to people. If you think of random people to write to, you cheer both you and them up.

I would love to use the Starbucks card to buy my favorite Tazo Chai Tea, in the tea bags. Then on a lazy Saturday morning (making sure my bf is out of the door, I don't need him around that day!), I'd make old-fashioned Chai with a saucepan, milk, vanilla bean and sugar. I'd sit in the sunroom with my cup of tea, the little notes and cards in front of me, and write to old friends and family I haven't been in touch with in years. (Somehow I have to dig up their mailing address....)

That's what I would do with the perfect package! :D

Hi Genny!

I haven't had the time to check your mommy's blog to know that much about you yet, so I'd love to ask you: what do you do in your free time?
When I was your age, I used to make small dresses to my Barbie. I used to ask my mom to bring me all kinds and colors of fabrics from her tailor, and when she did, I'd spend long moments admiring them and trying to decide which fabric goes for Barbie's skirt, and which goes for the matching shirt. FUN, FUN days!

I'll tell you a secret Genny! I know...I know, that if I look for some of those small dresses, I will find them, for I never threw them away... Unless my mom had to...

Genny, are you enjoying those warm blueberry muffins and milk? I'm totally drooling here. So anyway, pick me and I'll send you a thank you in the mail. ;) It's not bribery (even if I toss in a little goodie), it's called being polite. Honest. Really. Okay, I'm bribing the judges. Did it work? At the very least, I hope it made you smile. ;)

By the way, I have six kids including four daughters (ages 18, 15, 11, and 2) and two sons (8 and 4). :)

Nice to meet you and your mama. :)
